Warming the coals.
Change is hard, I know that, but unless we are talking about vending machines, change is inevitable. Change is coming. Now I do not believe in changing something just for the sake of change. There needs to be a reason or a purpose for change. But on the flip side of this there need to be a logical reason and a purpose for not changing something. "Because I said so" or "that's just the way we have always done it" just doesn't work for me. I like to know why things are done a certain way. What was the reason it was first done this way. What was the purpose for the tradition. Somethings need to stay the same. For example science has discovered that a healthy diet and exercise will assist you to live longer and with more mobility than those who do not. That message is solid. There is no need to change it. Now the way you present that information is free to frequent and radical change. As long as the message is retained the manner in which it is delivered can, will, and should change. Almost everyone would agree to this philosophy. So why is it so controversial when it comes to Church? Many intelligent people who are champions for change and progress in the workplace succumb to some kind of lobotomy on Sunday morning once they cross the threshold of the front door. All of a sudden the practices and policies they guide their professional lives with are not good enough for God. What worked Monday thru Friday isn't appropriate for Sunday. I wonder who gave you the brain to think up those policies and procedures, who bless you with the wisdom be successful at what you do? You know gravity is not mentioned in the Bible but I am pretty sure God invented it.

Me and my family went to the candlelight vigil for Zahra Baker on Tuesday which would have been Zahra's 11th birthday.
This is a very emotional time for us as my daughter Madison sat right next to her in school and ate lunch with her most everyday.

Ten Years in a Day

For the last 10 years I have ignored the fact that I am getting older. I am the most experienced 27 year old on the planet. I would joke that I am only having anniversaries of my last birthday. But today I have decided that it's time to face the truth, I am getting older, and that time keeps on slipping into the future. Whether I celebrate it or not my time here on Earth is getting shorter. And there is nothing I can do to stop it.
But I can say this, the last 365 days have been the best of my life, only second to the next 365 days. Time is too short to pretend, to play "life", to not be who you really are. I know who I am and I am who I was created to be, I won't apologize for it, take it up with God if you don't like me. I've stopped running from who I am, and I will live out the rest of my life making full use of the gifts and talents that I have been given. To do any less is just spitting in the face of my creator.

I am always watching videos.
Always watching what some of the best and the brightest are doing, so that I can learn something or just steal some great ideas that they stole from someone else.

At first I was drawn to this video for it's artistic quality.
But then the message in it was so incredible.
I love the attitude of always wanting empty seats. Our past history has taught us that we are only successful if the seats are always full. But if they are full then where are the ones you are trying to reach going to sit???
But for Pete Wilson and the Cross Point team it wasn't enough just to have empty seats. They realized that there are some people that will never sit in the seat you have open for them.
I am very excited about this movement in God's Church today.
It's time to GO where they are, to show them Love, and show them Hope, and to bring that empty seat with you.

I love music. I have lots of it and I am always looking for more. I don't even want to know how much I have spent on iTunes, but it is a lot. Some I get because I like the melody, some I get because they're "what's hot", and some I get because...well because they're free. But every once and a while I find one that really speaks to my soul. One that is like looking in a mirror. And sometimes I find these in the most unlikely spots. I am not a big country fan but I have found a couple of really good ones in that genre. My latest diamond in a gold mine came from somewhere I never expected.....Disney....Yes Disney. Who knew that "Achy Breaky" Billy Ray's Daughter would be the one who brought the next soul searching song my way. It's a song that talks about the struggles of life, and doesn't pretend they are not there and that they will never be there on the future. I can spend my whole life looking for the end of this journey that I will forget to enjoy the ride.

As we looked at where MGC had been in the last 125 years, Cliff Black, senior pastor of Mountain Grove Church, gave us the destination of where we need to be heading.

Cliff made everything clear this weekend.

To make these desires a reality we must continue to make right choices as it comes to ministry. We must be willing to discard many of the attributes of established and traditional practices to make sure that Sunday morning and evenings are times of celebration. We must continue to create a new style of worship music that is filled with statements of praise and worship, and that is geared toward excitement and evangelism. We must be willing to appropriate contemporary cultural forms, where we can become a multi-media place of worship that involves sight as well as sound. We must not just be willing to train lay leadership, we must be willing to allow them to serve in places of leadership under God’s divine direction. I am convinced there are people in our church with all kinds of abilities that are no being put to use, and we must not allow those abilities to be wasted away in idleness. Therefore, our Staff must be visionaries who are willing to teach and train others to do the work of the ministry, as we show them the vision and help them to find their place in making it a reality.

I am so excited about this journey that I started packing last night.

I am ready, let's get going.

Getting ready to say "I do"

In a little more than a week our good friends daughter is getting married. For the last couple of years we had the opportunity to watch this young couple grow closer together. And cry with excitement when Brad proposed to Ashley. We get to be a part of the exciting 1st chapter of their life together. And watch as they look each other in the eyes and promise to be there in until the end. I can hardly wait until next weekend, there is just something that I love about watching a two people committing their lives together. There is so much hope and faith that they will be one of the couples that beats the odds. Overcomes the statistics, and live together "until death do us part." On their wedding day...that special day... there is no doubt that this couple...will finish together.

Here is to a long and happy marriage, living as one as long as you both shall live.

Man Crush

Face it at some point in the life of a man you have had a crush on another man. And before you get all bend out of shape I am not talking about a romantic crush. What I mean is they have certain qualities or characteristics that we admire about someone else. We wish we were looked like him, talked like him, where as smart as him. or in my case wished I had great hair like Edward Cullan. For me I have more than a follicle obsession with the 17 year old (and not counting) vampire from the Pacific northwest. I am fascinated by the superhuman love his has for Bella. This rivals the love affair of Romeo and Juliet. Except he is already dead and he is a blood sucking vampire....hey no one is perfect

So why is it that a fictional teenage vampire knowd more about unconditional love than all of us guys put together?

Let me help you out here....Your wife or girlfriend doesn't want him, she wants YOU to look at her the way he looks at Bella. They want you to be their own personal Edward. Now I know that it sounds like giving in and letting them change us from who we are.....but really, if we gave them a taste of this, we might be surprised how things will change for the both of you....

Why I do what I do.

I have been questioned before about why I work so hard and pull all nighters to get stuff "just right". My motto is:

If it is worth doing, then it is worth overdoing.

So why do I have such I high standard???? Read the following e-mail I got from a friend and you will understand.

Hey! I just wanted to let you and all the "Get Reel" cast know of a testimony I heard about last night.... My brother n law brought his brother n law to Get Reel and it has completely changed his life! Long story short him and his girlfriend/wife are very recently separated. He has been coming to church and has recently visited with Jack [Jack is a staff member at our church] (and he was saved yesterday). We were talking to him last night and he was so excited about being saved and shared with me and Joey what "Get Reel" meant to him. He said when he was listening to the testimony that he was so touched that he just had a whole new outlook on life and it was life-changing for him. I know we are sometimes uncertain if what happened really impacted lives or not, well here's another one to add to the list!! You followed God's calling and this life was changed forever!! Thanks for all you do :)

As we practice our lines, prepare the video, and begin our decor, let's not forget the reason we are doing this. There is a couple out there than needs some encouragement. There is a couple that can't find there way "Home". So no matter what your part is this Saturday, stand up tall and say it loud, and just watch as God comes through again.

Time is ticking and there is a lot still left to do.

Just a reminder that there is a rehearsal this Saturday Feb 7th at 4pm.
This will mainly be for the singers to practice their songs. But also I am going to take an opportunity to walk through what everyone will be doing and get the media team a chance to feel out the equipment and talk about what will be going on.

Back Stage hands will get the first look at all that needs to happen and I will need you input to see how to maximize what you need to do and minimize the distraction.

I have a draft of the script that I will be handing out so all of you will be able to follow along and make notes. Please review this and let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for signing up to serve for this years event. I am working on assigning all the positions and should have that up soon. I just wanted to post a couple of reminders.P>

We will have a rehersal/training session on Saturday Feb 7th at 4pm for MEDIA TEAM / HOST TEAM / SINGERS / SET UP we will also begin our set up of the auditorium.

ALL: We will have the dress rehersal on Friday Feb 13th at 7pm (food provided)
